Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Dirty dance of politics” (February 20). It is unfortunate that a DIG-rank officer in the Coast Guard, BK loshali, should boast (with no jurisdiction) that he had caused the destruction of the aggressive Pakistani boat which dared to enter in Indian waters, on December 31. When cornered by Indian authorities, he backtracked from his remark. The contradiction was an attempt by the officer to gain cheap popularity. It gave an opportunity to Pakistan to ridicule India on this issue. It is time that we take serious cognisance of such lapses and have strong disciplinary action against these errant officers, so that no one in the future takes up security issues lightly.
