Sir — This refers to the editorial, “lesson from Kishtwar” (August 12). The youth of Kishtwar are reported to have indulged in the recent violence, making the situation communal, volatile and violent in Jammu & Kashmir.
This has resulted in the clamping down of curfew in the area. The local Government must take the youth into confidence and engage them gainfully by providing employment/entrepreneurial opportunities to ensure that they do not fall prey to the machinations of the trouble-makers. It would be worthwhile to draft them in the Army to instill in them confidence and a sense of patriotism. This will go a long way in arresting such untoward incidents.
Pakistan is watching and, as has happened in the past, may use the opportunity to engage the youth against the State. Also, the development works in the State are conspicuous by their absence. The State Government should take strong steps to plug the deficiencies and provide a just, safe and equitable environment to the citizens.
