End privilege

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “End violent Jat protests” (February 22). The root cause of the Jat agitation in Haryana, with demands for reservation, is absurd. Reservation of all kinds is a hindrance to the country’s economic development. Agreed, the economically weaker sections must be looked at by giving them more opportunities to come up, but reservations are not the way. 

Such violent stirs not only result in loss of property worth crores of rupees, normal life too is paralysed. The common man is affected badly. Perhaps it is time to abolish all kinds of reservation in the interest of the nation. Politicians must not use reservations as a tool for vote-bank politics.
