Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Scientific temperament” (January 12). It is a sorry state of affairs that India’s contribution towards science and technology has been dismal. Perhaps we are still living in the dark ages of superstition. In ancient times, religion and science were inextricably linked. With limited resources even abroad, we could produce Nobel laureates like CV Raman, Jagdish Chandra Bose, Satyendra Nath Bose etc.
Now that we have more resources, very few students opt for science as a career option. At a time when the country has to develop, industries have to be set up, agriculture has to grow, infrastructure has to be created, science and technology should play a crucial role.
