Sir— Banning the sale of firecrackers in Delhi during Diwali by the Supreme Court on a public interest litigation does not seem cogently reasonable. Do these petitioners represent the public opinion of the country and will of the peopleIJ
If the honourable apex court so desired it could have directed the executive to enact a statute for banning the sale of firecrackers all over the country to save the environment free from increasing pollution. Can Delhi remain pollution free if its contiguous States intensely pollute the environment by firecrackers on DiwaliIJ
Moreover some traders who stockpiled fireworks to sell on Diwali would no doubt sustain prodigious losses.
