Sir — This refers to the article, “Article 370 is truly divisive” (June 13) by Akansha Mehta. The more one studies the justification of Article 370 in the Constitution, the more one is convinced about the culpability of Jawaharlal Nehru on this issue, to please his friend Sheikh Abdullah, despite strong objections of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, BR Ambedkar and other members of the Constituent Assembly.
The writer has refreshed the memory of the earlier generation and enlightened the younger generation, of the real tragedy of Article 370. She believes that “the Kashmiri people know well that their political and economic well-being lies with India”, but that “the Kashmiri leadership has vitiated the atmosphere and retarded their own politico-economic growth...” Article 370 must indeed go.
