Emotional atyachaar

Sir —This refers to the news item, “I may be killed like my grandmother, father; I do not care: Rahul” (October 24). The statements that Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi made are emotional and irrational. It is not understood why Mr Gandhi has made the Bharatiya Janata Party a scapegoat for the communal violence in Muzaffarnagar. He should have gone through the origins of the conflict which culminated in the communal flare-up. Had the district law enforcing authorities in Uttar Pradesh taken appropriate and credible steps instantly, there would have been no violence.

As regards his invocation of the assassination of his father and grandmother, it has nothing to do with just communal violence or mere hate. It is the Congress which has intensified divisive tendencies. The party’s policy of appeasement will ultimately break down social harmony and integration. The Congress has ruled more than 40 years at the Centre and in States since independence. Yet it failed to do good for the Muslim community. Mr Gandhi must look inward before shooting his mouth off.
