Electoral reform needed

Published on:

Sir — This refers to the article, “False Affidavit: MPs  must be penalised” (October 24). To have a fair and transparent election,  the detailed information of the candidates contesting the election must be rigorously verified complying  with the latest direction of the apex court. It would enable the electorates to know the background of the candidates before enfranchising  in the election. The electoral system in our democratic polity  provides ample opportunities to the crafty, rich and muscle powered candidates for circumventing the rules, procedures and Representation of People Act in their favour. It requires, therefore, electoral reform, including making right to votes compulsory, to root out the malady of corruption.
