Dynastic politics

This refers to the article, “Akhilesh Yadav and his grand alliances” (December 16) by Rajesh Singh. The writer has rightly summed up the political scenario in Uttar Pradesh.

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav has started preparing for the 2017 State Assembly election as he is aware of the fact that time is running out and he does not have much to showcase regarding his achievements.

Whatever seats the Congress won in Bihar, it was possible only due to the support of Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and Rashtriya Janata Dal chief lalu Prasad. Similarly, in Uttar Pradesh, the Congress cannot win alone. Hence, Mr Yadav is right to show the Congress its place.

Also, there are chances that Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati may unite with the BJP. This will be the biggest challenge for the young Yadav. In all probability, he will not align with the BSP and, therefore, he is trying to attract anti-BJP forces.

last but not the least, it was unfortunate that a democratically-elected leader like Mr Yadav said that he had become the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh because of his father, and now it is his ambition and responsibility to make his father the Prime Minister of the country. This is dynastic politics at its worst.
