While it is true that Rani laxmibai of Jhansi fought valiantly against the British forces in the 19th century, and Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose utilised women in his Indian National Army in the 1940s, it is doubtful if this experiment by the Defence Ministry to permit women officers to opt for the fighter stream will succeed. It is advisable to use women in combat duties gradually and see if the experiment is likely to succeed.
