Doordarshan is bonded, as Modi interview shows

Published on:

This refers to the bold confession by Ashok Srivastav, who had interviewed BJP's prime ministerial candidate Narendra Modi for Doordarshan, that as an anchor he was personally against editing of such an important interview. Even Prasar Bharati CEO Jawahar Sircar has admitted that the recorded interview should have been telecast immediately without editing. The delay in the telecast was obviously because the disgraceful editing was being done.

Doordarshan has always been grossly misused by someone from the ‘top' through unwritten orders, as I experienced when I was unofficially ‘black-listed' for being an RTI-expert on its weekly programme, ‘Jaanne ka haque', some months ago. It seems that certain uncomfortable RTI petitions to the Union Ministry of Information & Broadcasting, apart from a few other factors, were the reasons for the black-listing. The bitter fact is that political rulers do not allow complete practical autonomy to Prasar Bharati and its affiliate institutions, including Doordarshan.
