Don't play one leader against the other

Published on:

This refers to the report, “Shatrughan Sinha for Advani as PM candidate” (July 24). The well-know cine star-turned-politician has come out strongly in support of veteran leader lK Advani, rooting for him as the BJP's prime ministerial candidate and criticising the leadership for sidelining party seniors.

While Mr Advani might be the most respected and capable person for the top job, he seems to have lost the trust of the majority which feels betrayed that the party did not honestly fulfil the agenda on which it had contested elections and had swept to power at the Centre.

Those who are criticising Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi and  trying to advocate the cause of ‘others', are not the BJP's well-wishers. They are simply playing into the hands of the Congress, which is observing with glee the dissent in the BJP. The party must take appropriate action against leaders who speak out of turn, much to the detriment of the party's interests and unity.
