This refers to the editorial, “Taking protests too far” (December 6). Sadhvi Niranjan Jyoti's abusive remarks have not been approved by the BJP leadership, including the Prime Minister. She has also apologised. The matter should be set to rest. But the opposition parties are groping for issues to attack the Government, since the BJP-led NDA regime has given no chance to them to attack the Government on scams. If, for every slip of the tongue, Ministers are asked to resign, no Minister or Prime Minister can remain in office for even a month.
When Mr Mulayam Singh downplayed rape cases, those friendly to the Samajwadi Party maintained a silence. When a TMC leader issued abominable statements threatening rape, no one from the opposition parties ventured to demand his resignation. The Congress is behaving as if it had sacked every leader for his or her misdemeanour. The party should know that people are watching it. They should allow Parliament to function.
