Don't abuse BJP's Bihar loss to stall Parliament

Published on:

This refers to the editorial “letting Parliament work” (November 11). The Opposition must not construe the Bihar mandate as a ‘thumbs- up’ sign for stalling the Winter Session of Parliament. Transaction in the two Houses is serious business which should go beyond a State election win. Due to the adamant ways of the Congress, the amendments to the land acquisition Act are almost history. The Goods and Services Tax Bill should not be allowed to go down that path.

The Congress's persistent demand that the Government reach out to the Opposition defies logic. Time and again the Government has said that it is ready to talk to solve contentious issues. It is no secret that the Congress is fearful that the NDA Government will hog the limelight and take all credit once the Bills are passed. The only ray of hope seems to be leaders like Mr Nitish Kumar and Ms Mamata Banerjee who appear keen to work with the Centre, if only to ensure a good deal for their States.
