Diversionary tactic

Sir — This refers to the report, “I may be killed like my grandmother, father; I don’t care: Rahul” (October 24). The scathing attack on the Bharatiya Janata Party by the undeclared prime ministerial candidate of the Congress shows how unaware he is of the realities of today’s India.

It is not the India of the 90s, driven by emotional issues. All-round governance failure of the Congress-led UPA Government has hit people hard. In 2014, voters of the age of 35 years and below will play a major role. For this generation, and also for rational Hindus, Muslims and others of all age groups, Hindutva, secularism, and communalism are mere talking points and non-issues.

The tough task for the Congress vice-president is to convince the voters why, after their monumental suffering under the two Congress-led UPA regimes, they should vote for the party. Raking up the assassinations of Indira and Rajiv Gandhi and the illness of his mother, Sonia Gandhi, or raising the bogey of communalism, is not going to work.
