Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Woman of substance” (December 7). There have been many prominent regional leaders, who rode their cart to success with a lone but reliable steed. However, what distinguished J Jayalalithaa from them is her singular ability to brace twin horses of nationalism and regionalism to her bandwagon with acumen, insight and dexterity.
Her innate outlook to an emancipated socio-political approach gave her a multi-dimensional view of the common man’s angst and struggle for a place in the sun. Her welfare schemes no longer looked like post-election gimmicks for vote bank, as she brought to bear her administrative oversight to effectively deliver on them.
