Disruptive politics of an irresponsible Opposition

Published on:

This refers to the editorial, “Politics of disruption” (December 22). If the Congress is obstructing parliamentary proceedings because it wants to adopt a tit-for-tat approach, then it is not doing anything meaningful. It has a majority in the Rajya Sabha, but it should not be arrogant about it. The message that it is sending out is that it is responsible for holding up key legislations. Moreover, given the kind of defeat it has suffered in the general and State elections, a bad Press is the last thing it needs.

The Congress should act as a responsible Opposition and support the BJP in important legislations. so that country can move ahead. The Winter Session of Parliament has ended, leaving the BJP with only the Ordinance route option.

Clearly, the Congress has not been able to digest its electoral losses. After the UPA-era coal scam, the coal Bill should have been passed at the earliest. But this has not been the case.
