Sir — This refers to the National Green Tribunal’s order to remove 10-year old diesel vehicles from the roads of Delhi. It reminds one of the Tughlaqi firman. Is the problem of air pollution in the capital city and the neighbourhood due to the number of vehicles, especially the trucks, passing through Delhi, or is it due to the age of the vehiclesIJ If age is the problem, then what is the scientific reasoning for the cut-off to be that of 10 yearsIJ
The NGT’s order will disrupt life in Delhi and the National Capital Region. The queues at the borders for checking will totally disrupt traffic. Keeping out such vehicles will severely affect the supply of essential commodities to Delhi and the NCR. One wishes that the NGT had acted with greater care.
