Sir — If the conquest of ladakh and other adjoining areas by Zorawar Singh, a General in the Jammu ruler Gulab Singh’s Army, was a marvellous feat of military adventure, equally disgraceful has been the step-by-step surrender of our own territory in the State of Jammu & Kashmir, where the Government of the day has done little to retrieve the areas illegally held by China or even Pakistan.
Ironically, even though negotiations with the Chinese regarding their intrusion into Indian territory have achieved no positive result, we still believe in the illusion of soft talk. This is tantamount to self-deception.
Also, our perversions don’t end with China alone. Our inability to stand firm against Pakistan’s evil designs is a sign of our being a soft state. A life has already been lost due to our insensitivity and the failure of our diplomatic skills, as well as the political meekness of our Government.
