Different Congress

Sir — This refers to the reports “Modi, PM spar over Iron Man” (October 30). It is natural for the Congress to be upset by Mr Narendra Modi’s remark that Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel should have been the country’s first Prime Minister. 

While it’s true that Sardar Patel belonged to the Congress, it was not the scam-tainted party that it is today. Further, he was secular. His brand of secularism was to treat all religions on par, which is different from the secularism that the Congress now engages in.
