Sir — This refers to the editorial, “No surrender” (May 18). The Union Government’s order for a unilateral ceasefire in the embattled Valley has been widely welcomed. It is but the outcome of Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s endeavours to give peace a chance at least in the holy month of Ramzan.
This has also been endorsed by National Conference chief Omar Abdullah and his father Farooq Abdullah along with other leaders.
But the peace-making decision must be reciprocated wholeheartedly to maintain peace across the Valley and success whereof may find an extension and the people of the Valley may live in peace without any bloodshed. Gun and bullet can never be a solution to any problem. Dialogue in an amicable and relaxed atmosphere can help bring peace.
