Dialogue is futile

Sir — The twin terror strikes in Jammu & Kashmir on Thursday have claimed 12 lives. The State has become a killing field for terrorists. Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has not been able to do anything beyond condemning the attack. At a time when India needs to get tough with Pakistan, Mr Singh is scheduled to meet his Pakistani counterpart, even though India is bleeding. The Opposition’s demands for not initiating any talk until all the terrorist camps are dismantled and those involved in the 26/11 attack are brought to justice, have fallen on deaf ears.

Perhaps, the Prime Minister would not have thought of meeting Mr Nawaz Sharif in New York if the Opposition had demanded he meet Pakistan’s Prime Minister! Action, not talk, is the need of the hour.

If need be, Mr Singh should seek the help of the US to dismantle the terror training camps in Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. Pakistan is incompetent to take on terrorism and partly reluctant to tame the terrorist outfits even though that country is also a victim of terror.
