Sir — This refers to the report, “T up in arms against ‘Rayala’ State” (December 5). The reason for suddenly dragging in two districts from the Rayalaseema region and tagging them on to the proposed Telangana State, despite strong opposition to the move, is to curtail the increasing influence of the Telangana Rashtra Samithi.
The idea also is to split the Reddy community which is predominant in the two districts — and defuse any possible rebellion against the Congress by Chief Minister Kiran Kumar Reddy. It is designed, moreover, to weaken Mr Jagan Mohan Reddy’s clout.
The Centre will also not have to resolve the water-sharing problems between the two States, at least for now. The two can fight out the issue in later years. No wonder the proposal has been rejected by almost all stakeholders and political parties.
