Sir —This refers to the editorial, “Tunnel of hope, bonding” (April 4). The completion of the Chenani-Nashri tunnel is not just an engineering feat but it will also bring the two major regions, Jammu & Kashmir closer, thereby reducing the travel time between them by two hours.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi is an acknowledged nonpareil in gaining attention solely by his message. In Udhampur, while inaugurating the tunnel, he continued with his typical use of catchy one-liners by asking the valley’s youth to choose between two Ts: Terrorism and tourism.
There is no doubt that political intervention by Modi is required to supplement the developmental efforts. It looked as if the Prime Minister was at his persuasive and conciliatory best — offering funds, projects, business and employment to tamp down the unending cycle of violent conflict in Kashmir.
