Sir — This refers to the state of obstructive affairs in the proceedings of Parliament in recent times. The level of discourse and the output of legislative business have gone down over the last few decades. The language used by parliamentarians reminds us of the market-place. There was a time Parliament had an illustrious galaxy of orators, academicians and nationally-reputed figures drawn from all classes and from across the country.
One cannot forget the likes of Jawaharlal Nehru, Syama Prasad Mookerjee, BR Ambedkar, SA Dange, Ram Manohar lohia, Indrajit Gupta, Narasimha Rao and Chandra Shekhar among others, who left their mark in Parliament’s history.
The loss of power at the Centre by the Congress has made the party so frustrated and aggressive that it thinks nothing of ruining the dignity of the House merely to malign Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the ruling BJP.
