Deserving duo

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “They’re Bharat’s ratna” (November 20). Few will contest the plea that Mr Atal Bihari Vajpayee has been one of the most popular Prime Ministers of India.

With an immaculate political career, endowed with a great deal of acumen and statesmanship, Mr Vajpayee deserves the highest award of India. Sachin Tendulkar and CNR Rao have got their due. Had the BJP stalwart also been conferred the honour, it would have done some good to the UPA regime’s image. 

Similarly, the Bharat Ratna is also overdue to hockey wizard Major Dhyan Chand. He brought laurels for the country through our national game.
