Sir — Pakistan’s High Commissioner to India Abdul Basit’s call for speedy resolution of the Siachen stand-off between India and Pakistan is welcome. In the face of hostile weather conditions such as blizzards, avalanches and crevasses, soldiers located there are perennially faced with insurmountable hardships.
Not only Indian soldiers but also Pakistani troops, who are posted on borders, have to pay a heavy price. In the light of prevailing circumstances, India and Pakistan must find a way out to demilitarise Siachen.
