This refers to the editorial, “Make perpetrators pay” (January 13). Most of us will agree with what Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar said. Indeed, it is time to pay Pakistani elements in kind, by inflicting similar pain on them for the terror attacks. Despite being a much powerful country, our response to our neighbour has always been generous. Sadly, our neighbour keeps humiliating us off and on, heaping tragedy and damaging our assets.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi even went out of his way to establish friendly relations with his Pakistani counterpart Nawaz Sharif, by making a surprise visit to lahore. It was expected that better days are ahead. Instead, what we got was the Pathankot air base attack. Although Mr Sharif did show signs of responding to our dismay by ordering prompt action against the perpetrators, the masterminds remain untouched. How long should India wait for the Pakistani Government to silence anti-Indian forces in its midst, bent on destroying the peace processIJ It’s time to give back.
