Delhi election will be an interesting contest

This refers to the article, “Capital contest and the personal dynamics” (January 17) by Ashok Malik. The article has analysed well the Delhi dilemma. The three parties are in the picture with forceful personalities — Ms Kiran Bedi, Mr Arvind Kejriwal and Mr Ajay Maken. They are known to the people of Delhi. It is to be seen how far the Dalit and the minority votes get divided between the Congress and the Aam Aadmi Party, and also to what extent Ms Shazia Ilmi's joining the BJP affects the minority vote in favour of the BJP.

It appears that the Congress and the AAP will have stiff contests in some constituencies. Overall, the situation is good for the BJP, with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, party president Amit Shah and Ms Bedi giving it an extra edge. The division of votes in the opposition camp will also help the BJP. The quality of candidates the BJP selects too will impact the BJP's prospects to some extent deal.
