Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Uttar Pradesh’s Yogi” (March 20). The political scene is never dull in India and there’s no need to fret about the choice of Yogi Adityanath, a saffron extremist facing trial on charges of incitement to communal rioting and attempt to murder, as the Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister.
The Uttar Pradesh BJP doesn’t lack leaders with administrative experience. The man it has picked doesn’t have any. Prime Minister Modi has defied the conventional wisdom, once again. As widely perceived and often stridently promised, the BJP has brought the ‘D’ word to Uttar Pradesh’s centre stage: It’s not development, it’s divisiveness.
