Sir — Replying to the debate on the motion of thanks for the President’s address in Parliament, Prime Minister Narendra Modi rightly hit out at the Congress on the Non Performing Assets (NPA) issue. The Prime Minister’s fiery speech has possibly debunked the impression of the Congress that Modi was running away from participating in debates. The Prime Minister unveiled the truth that the NPA projected at 36 per cent by the UPA in fact stood at 82 per cent. The 82 per cent NPA scam is another addition to the fleet of Congress-led UPA scams. This is why banks are in shambles despite interest rates being low. The banks’ rate of interest does not stimulate savings among the people. Besides, the rate of interest are not giving fair return to the depositors, as a result of which, they have earmarked some portion of the amount towards income tax on the interest earned on deposits. For survival, banks too are resorting to collect charges in various names.
As for the Congress’ allegation on Rafale jets, there are speculations that the NDA Government entered into an agreement to purchase 36 jets worth Rs 59,000 crore as against 126 for Rs 54,000 crore by the UPA. Antagonists of Modi must understand that the current deal is better in terms of capability, price, equipment, delivery and training. Scams have no place in the Government headed by Modi.
