Dated impressions

Sir — It is amusing that many  analysts are worried that the Indian voters have suddenly turned ‘communal’. This is a wrong reading of the lok Sabha election result.

After all, this is pretty much the same electorate that gave the ‘secular’ Congress two terms in office. Why did the people bring down the Congress from 206 to less than 50 seatsIJ

Is it because Mr Narendra Modi promised to demolish the secular ideals of the Constitution and make India a ‘Hindu Republic of India’IJ The stone-cast impression by sections of the mainstream media about the Prime Minister-designate of India is outdated. He will be at the helm of affairs of an extremely diverse country.

As Mr Modi has said, he will be carrying the aspirations of 125 crore of his fellow citizens who should benefit from real programmes and not tokenism, which is the staple diet of most politicians today.
