CWC's decision exposes Rahul's reluctance

This refers to the editorial, “Still waiting for Rahul” (September 10). It looks as if the Congress has now decided to amend its constitution and, therefore, has decided to continue with Ms Sonia Gandhi as the party president. This has triggered suspicions that this move is aimed at protecting the senior leaders, whom Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi had intended to weed out. Making a virtue of its compulsions to retain the status quo with Ms Gandhi as the boss and her son as her deputy, has the Congress now discovered that it is in a ‘very comfortable position' with a youthful vice president and a mature and experienced presidentIJ

Ever since Mr Gandhi returned from his mysterious sabbatical, there have been few imprints of his new avatar, barring outbursts against the Narendra Modi Government. His mother's decision to stay at the helm will be viewed as a lack of confidence in Mr Gandhi’s leadership. This is bad.
