It is most unfortunate that the Union Ministry of Home Affairs has, in an affidavit, virtually expressed helplessness in combating the Maoist menace. The cause of this is not far to seek. There are hidden or not-so-hidden sympathisers of the Maoist movement in the UPA Government. A good example of this is the appointment of Binayak Sen to a Government health committee.
I have a simple question to ask the Maoist sympathisers: Do they support the Maoists when the Red ultras observe August 15 and January 26 as ‘black days’IJ If the Maoists cannot even respect Independence Day and Republic Day, how can one expect that they will be persuaded to join the national mainstreamIJ The activities of all Maoist sympathisers should be closely monitored because they provide the necessary oxygen to the violent movement, giving it a sort of respectability.
