Sir — Despite the Prime Minister’s ostensible warning, gau-rakshaks (cow protectors) are on the prowl. Unbridled lynching of people who happen to transport cows legally with necessary documents even they are not spared. Certain sections of the society do this job for a living. Some have been murdered, many are maimed for life and many have turned to other menial jobs out of fear.
The gau-rakshaks are demanding identity cards to be issued by the Government. It is not clear as to which department of the Government will be issuing these cards for the gau-rakshaks, and why. Since these gau-rakshaks do not have any legal sanction or Government protection they need to be mercilessly punished.
