Countering terror

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “Sharif’s desperate moves” (October 2). In a desperate and vain attempt to draw the attention of the world community at the UN General Assembly, Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif desired that Kashmir should be demilitarised.

Mr Sharif should bear in mind that it depends on the sovereign will of India to do the needful, by considering its national interest and security.

It is true that Pakistan has the tendency to breach and violate  treaty obligation. It is also a well-known fact that Pakistan is the breeding ground for terrorism and that it exports terrorist outfits to different regions of the world.

Terrorism is the strategic policy of Pakistan against India, and it constantly unleashes violence and unrest, having inherited the policy of former President Zia ul-Haq — that of inflicting thousand cuts upon India.

The Modi Government has taken the right decision not to resume dialogue with Pakistan, unless Islamabad renounces infiltrating Jammu & Kashmir and other parts of the country.
