Corrupt leader

This refers to the editorial, “The grand comeback” (November 9). After the usual celebration for electoral victory comes the bitter truth: The voters’ unpredictability, insensitivity and immaturity. The grand alliance’s unexpectedly grand victory, with RJD chief lalu Prasad getting the largest number of seats, nine more than Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar’s Janata Dal (United), represents the most distressing aspect.

lalu Prasad’s predominance inevitably reminds us of the lawlessness of his 15-year rule that ended when Mr Nitish Kumar, in alliance with the BJP, defeated his ‘jungle raj’. lalu Prasad was convicted in the fodder scam case and was subsequently jailed. Now on bail, he cannot contest elections.

Earlier, he had appointed his unlettered wife to replace him as the Chief Minister. This time, he has brought in his two sons to fulfill his dynastic ambitions. It is morally improper for Bihari voters to have backed such a leader.
