Congress plays politics even at film festivals

This refers to the editorial, “Choosing the wrong time” (November 22). Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari has shown his political frustration and desperation by using the occasion of the International Film Festival of India, in Goa, for petty political propaganda.

This must be the first instance in the history of Government-sponsored film festivals when a Minister moved away from the focus on films. It appears that he had done no homework on his major responsibility.

Mr Tewari's key preference seems to be to serve his party's interests more than the national interest, and he uses the various units under his ministry for the purpose. No wonder, we recently had his 'advisory' to television news channels to fall in line and not compare the Prime Minister's National Day speeches to that of Opposition leaders like Mr Narendra Modi! live coverage of Mr Modi's public speeches has effectively disappeared from the official media.
