Congress must pull up Khurshid for his damaging remarks

This refers to the editorial, “Demeaning institutions” (March 15).

It is unfortunate and ironical that a Union Minister accused of swindling funds meant for differently-abled persons should have the audacity to cast aspersions on reputed institutions like the Supreme Court and Election Commission of India. His reference to the verdict barring convicts from continuing as lawmakers, as “judge-made law”, is clearly wrong, as the court has not made any new law but only interpreted correctly the relevant provisions of the Constitution which were being flouted with impunity till now.

Mr Salman Khurshid's comment on the Election Commission is not only in bad taste but indicates a mindset to win elections by hook or by crook. The least that his party should do is to not only publicly disassociate from his statement but to also denounce the remark in unequivocal terms, and apologise to the institutions that the Minister has insulted.
