Sir — This refers to the editorial, “BJP’s emphatic victory” (October 20). The Maharashtra and Haryana election results are a further blow to the Congress, which was already down due to its worst ever performance in the lok Sabha election. It is the people’s stamp of approval on the Narendra Modi Government’s performance.
The Modi-Amit Shah duo’s electoral strategy of going it alone, ending a 25-year-old alliance with the Shiv Sena in Maharashtra due to Sena chief Uddhav Thackeray’s insistence on playing big brother, has been paid off. The BJP’s impressive win in both the Congress strongholds is an answer to those who had begun to talk of the end of the ‘Modi wave’.
The BJP’s clear majority in Haryana, it becoming the largest party in Maharashtra by cutting Mr Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena to size, and the rout of Raj Thackeray’s aggressive Maharashtra Navnirman Sena, indicate the disenchantment of voters with the parochial politics of caste, community, region, and religion. Having experienced enough of the Congress misrule, voters are going with the BJP.
