Congress leaders unable to challenge dynasty rule

This refers to the editorial, “Still waiting for Rahul” (September 10). The extension of Congress vice president Sonia Gandhi's presidential term by one year, is an unmistakable indication of the leadership crisis afflicting the grand old party. There was a time, long ago, when the Congress president was elected every year. Now, under dynasty rule, Ms Gandhi has been continuing as the party’s president for two decades. It is not that the party has no other capable leaders. But, sadly, given the culture of sycophancy, they are too overawed to challenge the dynasty's domination.

The mother-son duo seems to be more interested in attacking Prime Minister Narendra Modi; hence, the people at large are in the dark about the future agenda of the Congress to regain power, as no leader is talking about it. Unfortunately, Mr Rahul Gandhi's public rhetoric is too negative to impress even his own party elders, who seem reluctant to usher him in the president's office. That explains Ms Gandhi's extension, despite her age and ill-health!
