Congress answerable on Natarajan's allegation

Published on:

This refers to the editorial, “Green cover exposed” (February 2). Ms Jayanthi Natarajan's revelations have only reinforced the belief that the Congress high command was excessively interfering in the decision-making of the UPA Government. The repeat mandate for the UPA had  emboldened Ms Sonia Gandhi and Mr Rahul Gandhi to act against national interests in the second tenure of the regime. A veteran Congress loyalist like Ms Natarajan was summarily shunted out from the Environment and Forests Ministry to make way for the more pliant Veerappa Moily to cater to Mr Gandhi's whims.

It is wrong to question Ms Natarajan's timing. She spoke up when there was no end in sight to her agonising wait to explain her stand to the party supremo. The lack of effective communication haunted the party before the election, and continues to do so now. Both Ms Gandhi and Mr Rahul Gandhi need to answer.
