This refers to the editorial, “Underground terror route” (July 29). The editorial aptly describes the modus operandi of brutal terrorists like Hamas who do not hesitate to use children to build underground tunnels between Gaza and Israel to fulfill their nefarious designs of carrying weapons and personnel into the Jewish nation and harming the latter. Terrorists regard such barbaric acts as ‘symbols of resistance' to the so-called occupation by Israel of Palestinian territory.
But some of our lawmakers are just not interested in these facts because they are inconvenient to their ideology of dislike for Israel and appeasement of the minority community. Thus, they have condemned Israel rather than Hamas for the violence which has rocked Gaza. Some over-enthusiastic left-leaning Rajya Sabha members only show their solidarity with the sentiments of their vote-banks and not condemn terrorists. Unfortunately, the media too has largely been silent over this hypocrisy.
