Condemn extremism

Published on:
Sir — This refers to the article, “This is not just Nigeria’s problem” by Sonam Mittal (May 12). It has been a month since the abduction of 276 Nigerian school girls by the xtremist Islamist group, Boko Haram, but the whereabouts of these girls are not yet known.
This religious extremist group has demanded the release of some dreaded terrorists lodged in Nigerian jails, failing which these innocent girls will be sold off to sex-slavery racket.
It is disheartening to note that none of the Islamic countries has either denounced this dastardly act or come forward to locate these girls, as has been offered by the US and some European countries. No Indian Muslim organisations has come forward either in censuring this reprehensible act.
This notorious group wants to take the Muslim community hundreds of years back in the name of religion. On the other hand, we have Malala Yousafzai’s case before us, who was shot in Pakistan by the Taliban for espousing the cause of girls’ education. These inhuman acts of Islamic extremists must be condemned by every human being, irrespective of their religion.
