This refers to the editorial, “Fighting terror unitedly” (November 17). It is good that world leaders were candid on the modus operandi to be adopted to snuff out terror. No radical terror group can strike big without local players being hand-in-glove with them. In developing countries, slumping economy and burgeoning population have resulted in driving the jobless youth to frustration, and, therefore, they become an easy target for terror groups.
Countries should take a sympathetic, nevertheless firm, approach towards differing ideologies of their citizens and redress their grievances before they go out of hand. Also, like US President Barack Obama and Russian President Vladimir Putin have done to the Syrian imbroglio, they have to shed their double standards to fight terror. Superpowers must take smaller countries into confidence before striking big on the Islamic State. Heads of countries should know that they cannot get rid of terror in isolation. A concerted effort between them is crucial.
