Complete ban

Sir — This refers to the report, “Kerala imposes Fat Tax on junk food” (July 9). The big question is if junk food is harmful for our health, why is it not banned in totalityIJ Rather, the Kerala Government is making it revenue-generating. It is a known fact that young ones are getting diabetic at an early age because of their being fond of such items. Branded restaurants are often visited by affording ones, but there is no such tax applicable on street vendors who sell junk food. Junk food culture has developed in India only recent decades. It is time the Union Government takes initiatives to ban sale of junk food if so required after studying the after-effects of consuming junk food.
