Complacency costs

Sir — This refers to the editorial, “A massive mandate” (February 11) and the article, “Vote, both negative and positive” (February 11) by Arushi Gupta. What pains me is that the BJP, flush with victories in the recent past, had become over-confident and complacent so soon. It was definitely wrong on its part to give prominence to the parachutists, neglecting the local workers and leaders who have been with the party for the last 20 years.

But I do not agree that issues such as ghar wapsi and the attack on churches in Delhi contributed to the BJP’s defeat. The Government had promptly ordered a probe and its outcome is awaited. Because of the BJP’s mismanagement, Delhiites will be governed by a known anarchist.
