Communal politics

Published on:
Sir — Mr Narendra Modi has always been criticised for his alleged involvement in the 2002 violence, despite being cleared by the courts. Amusingly, people who take potshots at Mr Modi themselves play communal politics. Mr Mulayam Singh Yadav tops the list.
The dilly-dallying by his Samajwadi Party in taking action against goons from the minority community is appalling. The party’s senior leader, Mr Azam Khan, was named in a sting operation for ordering Uttar Pradesh police to desist from taking actions against captured Muslim hoodlums. But no action was taken against Mr Khan.
In its mindless expedition to be the ‘messiah’ of the minorities, the Samajwadi Party is debilitating the country. It must understand that criminals have no religion, caste or creed. They are a blot on a pluralistic society and must be reformed or punished.
