Sir — It is gratifying to know from media reports that a Muslim school-girl has bagged a Gita contest, coming at the top of a list of some 4,000 students. She has shown that religion is no barrier to the quest for inclusive knowledge.
The development is as refreshing as an earlier instance years ago, of an orthodox Muslim girl in Kerala getting the first prize in a Sanskrit Vedanta course, even as many non-Muslim fellow students had abandoned the projectmidway. The girl was quoted as saying that she wanted to pursue higher studies in Vedanta.
These two news stories should educate our political class which is bent on dividing the nation through communal politics, at times played in the name of secularism. No religion bars one from learning the virtues of the other religions.
