This refers to the editorial, “Petty minds at work” (July 26). The Telangana Government has done no wrong in choosing tennis star Sania Mirza as the State’s brand ambassador. She has made our country proud the world over by her achievements.
But it is a pity that a BJP leader from the State has given the issue an unwanted twist. Sania Mirza has the right to marry any person, even if he is from Pakistan. By marrying a Pakistani, she has not become less of an Indian. I am sure the BJP also shares this opinion.
The only worry that the Telangana Chief Minister should be having is about aid from the Union Government. The controversy shouldn't make the Narendra Modi Government adopt a biased approach towards the new-born State, as the latter will have to rely heavily on the Centre's support initially. A response from the Prime Minister on the issue will help this controversy to die down.
